The National Science Foundation provided critical funding for a research project to unravel the role of leadership behavior in organizational learning. The client recognized the significance of leadership in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within organizations. We collected a diverse dataset comprising interviews and observations to address this multifaceted issue comprehensively. Over a meticulous two-year study, we gathered data from 104 participants, offering a rich and multidimensional perspective on the interplay between leadership behavior and organizational learning.
The central research question was the foundation of our investigation: “How does leadership behavior play a role in organizational learning?” This research question guided our exploration into the mechanisms and dynamics through which leadership influences the learning processes within organizations. We conducted a rigorous thematic analysis using NVivo to address our research question effectively. This method allowed us to systematically identify and analyze recurring themes, patterns, and insights within the interview and observational data.
Our analysis unveiled a compelling and overarching theme: “Leadership Behavior and Organizational Learning.” This finding underscored the critical role that leadership behavior played in shaping organizational learning culture. It emphasized the impact of leadership on the organization’s ability to adapt, evolve, and continually improve. Within this overarching theme, three primary subthemes emerged: Encouragement, Helpfulness, and Motivation.
