The National Science Foundation provided essential funding for a research project to gain a deep understanding of employees’ lived experiences within their workplaces. With the significance of the work environment on employees’ well-being, satisfaction, and overall performance recognized, we collected a diverse dataset comprising interviews and observations to explore this multifaceted issue comprehensively. Over a two-year study, we gathered data from 110 participants, providing a rich and comprehensive perspective on employees’ day-to-day workplace experiences.

The central research question served as the guiding principle of our investigation: “What are the lived experiences in employees’ workplaces?” This research question explored the intricacies of employees’ interactions, perceptions, and emotions in their work environments. We conducted a thematic analysis using NVivo to address the research question effectively. This analytical approach allowed us to systematically identify and analyze recurring themes, patterns, and insights within the interview and observational data.

Our analysis revealed a central and overarching theme: “Lived Experiences in Employees’ Workplaces.” This finding emphasized the significance of the work environment in shaping employees’ daily experiences, from interactions with colleagues and supervisors to the physical setting and organizational culture. Within this overarching theme, two primary subthemes emerged: (a) Employee Engagement and (b) Employee Job Performance.

The client gained valuable insights into the importance of employees’ workplaces through our research. These findings underscored the work environment’s critical role in influencing employee engagement, satisfaction, and job performance. The client made informed decisions and implemented strategies to enhance employees’ work experience. These strategies improved employee morale, retention rates, and organizational performance.
In summary, this research project emphasized the profound impact of workplace experiences on employees. The study provided actionable insights that informed organizational policies, practices, and strategies, ultimately contributing to more positive and fulfilling workplace environments.
